“Old McDonald had a farm” is a crowd-pleaser for toddlers and preschoolers. Why not add a new twist to this old song? Instead of the children just singing along, allow them to participate by using plastic farm animals.
Each child gets to pick an animal. When it is the animal’s turn in the song, the child gets to put it in the middle of the group and make the accompanying sound. So, for a large group you will have more than one pig or cow for example.
Another way to expand this is by naming the animals in a second language. If you have jungle animals or sea creatures, you can sing “OldMcDonald had a zoo” or “Old McDonald lived by the sea.”
