Metallica guitarist

The band’s name was the idea of a friend of Lars’ named Ron Quintana,[10] who had “Metalmania” and “Metallica” as possible names for a new music fanzine, although he was more inclined towards the latter. Ulrich liked “Metallica” so much that he quickly recommended (to Quintana) that he call the fanzine “Metalmania”. Thus, Ulrich and Hetfield’s band took on the name Metallica.[11] The band’s live debut as Metallica was the first of its kind.

Metallica’s live debut would take place on March 14, 1982 at the Radio City club in Anaheim, in a performance in which the lack of experience on stage caused serious problems for the band.[13] Two weeks later they would have the opportunity to make amends by opening two nights in a row for the English band Saxon at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go venue in Los Angeles. It is worth mentioning that inside the booklet of the covers album that the band made in 1998 titled Garage Inc can be found reproduced the notes that Ulrich himself took at that time on the progress of these two concerts, including the setlists of both nights and the drummer’s impressions on the progress of the same.

James hetfield

Newsted was born on March 4, 1963 and grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan, USA. From an early age he felt a great interest in heavy metal and wanted to learn to play bass when he met Gene Simmons of Kiss, but his favorite bassist was Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath. He learned to play bass, sing and started playing in local bands. He cited Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, his predecessor Cliff Burton of Metallica and Geddy Lee of Rush as his other influences.

On November 8, 1986, Newsted auditioned for Metallica along with 39 other participants. A few weeks later, Lars Ulrich phoned Newsted to confirm that he had been chosen to replace the tragically deceased Cliff Burton.

In 1988 they released …And Justice for All, an album full of dark and very fast riffs, but in which the bass is almost null, while it had always been an important element for the band. Jason’s bass was practically “covered” by layers and layers of guitars, and they did not make use of Newsted’s talent in the composition.
