“Accessible transportation within Philadelphia and throughout Pennsylvania is a crucial part of our state’s economy,” Williams said. “Ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft are increasingly used, so we must ensure that both drivers and passengers of these services are safe and fairly compensated for their work.”
A JP Morgan study also revealed that monthly earnings for Uber and Lyft drivers have fallen 53% from 2013 to 2017. The average driver who earned $1,496 driving for a ridesharing company in 2013 only earns $783 in 2017.
