Abingdon-on-Thames , a little south of Oxford , on the River Thames , is a town in Oxfordshire . It joined this county in 1974: it was formerly part of Berkshire . Before 1867, Abingdon was the capital of Berkshire. It developed around an abbey founded in the 7th century. It was long an important town, but was somewhat marginalized in the nineteenth e century, in particular for the benefit of Reading better served by the railroad. We read stories, do research projects, learn how to find books, learn how to use library resources, use technology, and MUCH more. We also have time to check out books. We do our best to help students find the “perfect” books.

Our mission is to encourage and promote our students’ love of reading by making sure they have access to books at school and at home. All Abingdon students, staff, and parents may check out materials from the library. Students have the opportunity to check out books during their weekly library lessons and may also come to the library at any time to check out materials. Library books have a two-week loan period, but students in grades PreK – 2 are encouraged to return books weekly.
