The organization oversees national tournaments such as the Canadian Rugby Championship, the National Women’s League and the Rugby Canada National Junior Championship; it promotes all the national teams in continental and world tournaments and also brings together the provincial rugby unions.

The organizers of the North American Rugby League (NARL) announced that the first matches will be played next June with the participation of 12 U.S. teams. The plans to establish the sport also include two Canadian franchises, in Toronto and Ottawa, whose teams will be incorporated in 2022.

It currently has seven Canadian teams, including the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs, symbolizing the rivalry between the two cities and the English and French-speaking communities. The champion receives the Stanley Cup, which was first awarded in 1893 to the best Canadian team, but since 1917 has been awarded to the NHL champion regardless of nationality, since it is a league played between teams from the United States and Canada.

The men’s national team is a world power, having an immense number of Canadian players distributed among the two main leagues of this sport in the world (NHL and KHL of Russia), without counting the other professional leagues in Europe. It disputes the historical leadership with the Russian national team, successor of the once powerful Soviet Union team. In 21 appearances at the Olympic Games, it has won nine gold, four silver and two bronze medals. At the World Championships, he has won 26 golds, 15 silvers and nine bronzes.
