I can’t update windows 10 20h2

In the past, I wrote an article about the BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) service not starting and how you can fix that problem. Without this service running in the background, you can’t download any Windows updates. It also causes all sorts of other problems, but the main problem that affects most people is when they can’t download updates.

I finally figured out that I had to recreate the BITS service completely! At that point, I was able to re-register it with Windows and then go to Services and start it from there. In this article, I will walk you through the steps to create the BITS service manually and then register it with Windows.

You can open an administrative command prompt by clicking Start, typing CMD and then right-clicking on the command prompt and selecting Run as administrator.

If, for some reason, you cannot get the above command to work correctly, you can also try the following command, which is just a shortened version. If you can, try copying and pasting because you will notice that after the = sign in several locations, there is a space immediately after it. That is not by accident, you need that space, otherwise, the command will not work.

Assume it is only if the message on the screen has NOT changed in about 3 hours. By “has not changed” I mean that after that time Windows continues to install the same update. Or that the installation rate has not increased in 3 hours.

Even if Windows tells you not to do it. It is the first step to fix things if the process is really frozen. Try pressing the reset button first. If it doesn’t work, hold down the on/off button for about 5 seconds and then hand start the PC again.

Antivirus and other programs such as firewalls or anti-spyware may prevent updates from installing. Try uninstalling them. It is best to do this using a proprietary uninstaller that antivirus programs usually have on their web sites.

With the antivirus already uninstalled try again to update your computer. When the problem is solved reinstall again the antivirus and other security programs you had. Always check that your version is the most modern and compatible with your Windows.
