Late birth registration file

The birth may not be registered at Hospital San Pedro in all cases that require a declaration or file processed before the Civil Registrar in accordance with the legislation in force, and especially the following:

Birth registration is the registry entry, issued by the Civil Registrar, which attests to the fact of birth, the date, time and place where it took place, the sex and, if applicable, the parentage of the registered person. The filiation determines the surnames of the registrant.

The father and mother of the child are obliged to request the registration in the first place, and if they cannot, or if they are not determined, any family member or relative who is present or any person in whose care the child was born.

The term to register the birth goes from 24 hours from the moment of its occurrence to 8 days, after which and up to 30 calendar days, just cause must be accredited, which will be stated in the registration. After this period, it is necessary to file a late birth registration with the corresponding Civil Registrar.

Ordering a birth certificate from abroad

The Pre-Identification Certificate (CPI) is an instrument that can be used by currently undocumented persons to access basic rights while they carry out the process of late birth registration before the Civil Registry (either by administrative or judicial means), and later the process to obtain the DNI. The processing of the CPI does not initiate the process of late birth registration.

The CPI does not prove identity and is an indispensable document for the late registration of births, replacing the negative registration report provided for in Law 26.413. It also provides greater security in terms of identification, by performing for the first time a biometric pre-identification that links the late registration process with the subsequent process of obtaining the DNI.

The delivery of the CPI will be approximately 15 days after starting the procedure. In the meantime, you will be given a Processing Certificate so that you can follow up the application through the channels detailed therein.
